Primarily Plant-Eaters
Red pandas are primarily herbivores and do not typically eat mammals. Their diet is centered around plant material.
What They Actually Eat
- Bamboo: Shoots and leaves make up about 95% of their diet.
- Fruits: Berries, apples, and other fruits when in season.
- Other Vegetation: Flowers, lichens, and mushrooms are occasionally consumed.
- Rare Exceptions: Insects may be eaten very rarely, but mammals are not part of their normal diet.
Not Giant Pandas
Red pandas are not closely related to giant pandas. While both are largely herbivorous, red pandas tend to favor leaves and shoots, whereas giant pandas focus more heavily on bamboo stalks.
