Goldfish: Heterotrophs or Autotrophs?

Goldfish are heterotrophs.

Autotrophs are organisms that can produce their own food from inorganic substances, typically through photosynthesis or chemosynthesis. Heterotrophs cannot make their own food and must consume other organisms or organic matter to obtain energy.

Because goldfish must eat organisms such as plants, small invertebrates, and prepared fish food to survive, they are classified as heterotrophs.
