Is the Ocicat Named After the Ocelot?

Yes. The Ocicat breed takes its name from its striking resemblance to the wild ocelot. “Ocicat” is a blend of “ocelot” and “cat.”

Breeders developed this domestic cat to look like a small wild feline while maintaining a friendly, affectionate, and sociable temperament. The result is a cat with an exotic appearance and a loving personality.
