While bears, wolves, and humans are the most significant predators of moose, a few other animals may occasionally prey on moose, especially young calves:
- Coyotes: While generally smaller prey specialists, coyotes can and do occasionally hunt young moose calves, particularly if separated from their mothers.
- Mountain lions (cougars): In areas where mountain lions are present, they can pose a threat to moose, especially calves and weaker individuals.
- Wolverines: Wolverines are opportunistic predators that may take advantage of weakened or injured moose, especially in harsh winter conditions.
It is important to note that these predators are less common threats than bears, wolves, and humans, and they rarely target healthy adult moose.
