Huisdieren
Martens do not eat red pandas. This is likely a misconception.
Here is why:
Different habitats: Martens are found in forests of Europe, Asia, and North America, while red pandas are primarily found in the Eastern Himalayas and Southwestern China. Their ranges rarely overlap.
Dietary differences: Martens are carnivores that eat small mammals, birds, insects, and reptiles. Red pandas are omnivores that primarily feed on bamboo, along with fruits, berries, and occasionally small animals.
Size disparity: Martens are much smaller than red pandas. A red panda is roughly the size of a house cat, while martens resemble weasels. It would be very difficult for a marten to hunt and kill a red panda.
While any predator might occasionally prey on an animal outside its usual diet, there is no evidence to suggest that martens actively hunt red pandas.
