What to Do If Your Guinea Pig’s Teeth Grow Too Long

What to Do If Your Guinea Pig’s Teeth Grow Too Long

If you suspect your guinea pig’s teeth are overgrown, take it to a veterinarian as soon as possible. The vet can examine the teeth and determine whether trimming is necessary. If so, the vet will use a special tool to carefully file them down.

At-Home Care

Provide plenty of hay for chewing, which naturally wears down the teeth. You can also offer hard vegetables and fruits such as carrots, apples, and broccoli to help keep teeth healthy and strong.

Monitoring

Check your guinea pig’s teeth regularly. If you notice them becoming too long, seek veterinary care promptly to prevent eating difficulties and other health issues.
